In a hearing, the President of Planned Parenthood, Cecile Richards, stated, "The outrageous accusations leveled against Planned Parenthood based on heavily doctored videos are offensive and categorically untrue. I realize, though, that the facts have never gotten in the way of these campaigns to block women from health care they need and deserve” (Dunn). Republicans in the House have threatened to shut down the government if funding does not cease for this group. Republican opponents have been recently called misogynistic by many of their Democratic counterparts.When asked in one interview by CNN television host Jake Tapper “if anything she had seen on the undercover videos revealing top medical officials with the nation’s largest abortion provider discussing the harvesting and sale of aborted babies’ organs bothered her," Senator Elizabeth Warren fired back with “what this is really about is about women’s access to abortion, and even though not one federal dollar goes to pay from abortions through Planned Parenthood, the Republicans want to find one more way to make it harder, to make it impossible, for a woman who is facing one of the most difficult decisions of her life.” Warren continued her argument by drawing back in America’s history, when abortions were not safe or legal and there were little means to stop unwanted pregnancy. “When I talk about 1955, I’m talking about a world where women died,” Warren said. “I’m talking about a world where women committed suicide rather than go forward with a pregnancy they could not handle, and what the Republicans are saying is they want to go back, and I want to make it clear we are not going back -- not now, not ever”
