According to T. Cresswell in “Place” stated about the place refer to location, locale, and sense of the place. Location is an absolute in the space with a specific set of coordinated and measurable distance from other sets of location, but the locale is material setting for social interaction, and send of place refers to feelings and emotions with that place. When people used space for living, space become a place. Reading about the place was very informative and easy to understand, because the author defined most of thing specifically. He includes general information, examples, many details, did researches, cites, and conclusion. Throughout this paper, I will analyze the article Place and discuss how the author effectively delivered his message to the readers, and explain my point of view of the article.
First, Place consist of location, locale, and sense of place. Also place is where most people like to spend their leisure, work, doing the shopping, and hanging out place. Space turns into a place when people used and lived that means we fell in love there, we went to school there, we shared some time there, and attended some important social events. For example; they talked about the city of Baghdad in Iraq. Baghdad allow to locate on a map, has mosques, homes, markets, barricades, and the Green Zone that means locale, and it has sense of places. Additionally, the article Place provides several subheadings such as Chora and Topos, Being There and Dwelling, Place and Humanistic Geography, The Social Construction of Place, Placelessness and Nonplace, Place, Process and Mobility, A Progressive of Place, and Conclusion. Between Chora and Topos are similiar in some cases. Chora refers to space that is not void, not empty location. Topos is closer to the space. Place includes clear definitions and examples, facts, an ancients Greek Philosopher Aristotle words, and other research. The authors use of examples are clear and easy to understand like when he explains the sense of place evoked by fantasy in which he refers to the “The Lord of the Rings or the magic staircases Hogwarts”. Most people watched and heard about these movies. Also his examples gave some historical information and extended my knowledge, because I have never heard about the city of Bagdad in Iraq. Although I learned about a new place, I believe that if the author included more visual examples and provided the reader with some more links, his article could be more interesting and possibly get more readers
