Friends or Enemies? A ferocious beast is what they are normally viewed as, but is that what pit-bulls always are. Is this stereotype true? They jump fences and attack people, but they can be very protective and loyal. Is it there fault, is it there genetic make-up, or is it there owners fault? There are many factors that come into play, the well-being of the pit bull, how they are treated, and how they were taught to act by owner or other pets or other pit-bulls. They can be enemies, because of the type of dog they are. They attack, they don’t growl or try to scare there enemy, and they bite, hold, shake, tear, and fight to the point of exhaustion due to there high pain tolerance. (Gladwell) They also are easily provoked, making them very aggressive. If you went for a run, and passed a house with pit-bulls behind the fence, they can easily jump and attack, which they might due. They fight, and don’t stop till they are dragged off, or they are near death, and they don’t stop to what many dogs would stop to. They are responsible for 59% of the dogs bitting humans in the US, and responsible for 82% of the humans death by dogs. They are a very protective type of dog, and can be very loyal. People also need to understand is that these dogs were, and still are trained to be fighting dogs. They get aggressive when they are hungry, and get attention when they need medical help. (Gladwell) Pit-bulls are also not the only biters. In a study with the Toronto Humane Society in 2010 they banned pit-bulls in Ontario, they didn’t go up or down. (DiNovo) They stayed even. These dogs are also super playful and fun to play with. They are energetic, and can be positive and helpful in your life for
