Morral explains the origin and history of the Pit-bull according to their ancestry to the canus molossi. As mentioned previously, the Molossian family trained the Pit-bull to herd cattle and bait bulls. The trainability of the Pit-bull is complimented by their “intelligence, strength, and loyalty.” Also, discussed within Morral’s research is the act of fighting Pit-bulls as a sport by the Romans, Englishmen, Americans, etc. Pit-bulls were entered into performance events as “working, sporting, and herding” dogs. The likeness of the Pit-bull has grown since their arrival to America in the late 1800’s. Pit-bulls have been featured in television (i.e. “Little Rascals”) and as a mascot during WWI. It is not uncommon for the Pit-bull to serve as a “police, search, or therapy” dog. Unfortunately, the popularity of trained fighters has triggered the public to request bans against the loyal pets.
