School spirit goes farther than the field for the Pine Ridge Pantherette Dance team. The weekend of November 22nd, 2015 the city of Deland, Florida held their annual Deland Fall Festival of the Arts. The Pantherettes performed a few of their routines from their pep rally routine to a dance created for their few competitions during the season. The first performance was a new work to the music “Goodnight Moon” by Shivaree, the music selection was very instrumental to the choreography and helped to tell the story and relay the mood of the dance. Their second routine, a new work choreographed by Captain Karson Tramont, was originally choreographed to help raise school spirit. Karson Tramont has been dancing since the age of six where she started at A Class Apart Dance Studio and performed for Volusia Dance Theatre. The Pep Rally routine was a mash up of songs from various artists. Song choices ranged from Fight Night by Migos, Mercy by Kanye West, Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran. The music choices were edited well to blend and fit together, though an older age group may not appreciate the electronics of the music as much as a younger crowd does. The first piece of choreography, Goodnight Moon, was a jazz routine and was a conventional piece. It is evident in the performances which dancers have years of dance experience and which do not. All of the performers would be considered amateurs in the dance discipline, most having only a year of dance experience from their public high school. This dance was a sassy, slower performance; using the dancers long lines to appear as a sexier routine. To make the dance more appealing numerous lifts were added and the technique of fall and recover was a common technique. The dance as a whole was a good attempt of having inexperienced dancers performing rather simple
