Pilocarpine, Atropine Sulfate

The different chemicals that were used in this experiment were Pilocarpine, Atropine Sulfate, Epinephrine, Digitals, Potassium, Sodium, and calcium ion concertation. Pilocarpine stimulates the effect of parasympathetic nerve stimulation by enhancing acetylcholine release. Atropine Sulfate is a drug that blocks the effect of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine which is liberated by the parasympathetic nerve endings. Cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle are both different in functionally and in fine structure. Epinephrine is the fight or flight neurotransmitter that is released to increase awareness. Digitalis is a drug that is prescribed for heart patients with congestive heart failure. In cardiac muscle, it depolarizes spontaneously in the absence of external stimulation while skeletal muscle is electrically stimulated. Automaticity is due to the plasma membranes that have reduced permeability to potassium ions but still allow sodium ions to slowly leak …show more content…
The pilocarpine makes the heartbeat slowdown, which was proven to be correct in this experiment. The chemical atropine makes the heartbeat go up and was proven true in this experiment. Epinephrine, makes the heartbeat increase massively, and was proven correct in this experiment. The digitalis, make the heartbeat decrease and was proven in this experiment. Calcium ions make the heartbeat decrease, and this was proven to be true through this experiment. Sodium ions make the heartbeat decrease, and was proven correct in the experiment. Potassium ions make the heartbeat decrease, and this was all proven to be true through the experiment. All the ions make the heartbeat decrease, while all the chemicals made the heartbeat increase. Going into this experiment, I didn’t think that all the chemicals would be proven correct. I thought that some would have been proven to be false or increase/decrease way more than they
