I have wanted to become an Occupational Therapy Assistant since I was in 7th grade. The school I went to housed all of the special needs children for the county. I grew up with these children in my classes and always wanted them to know that just because they have the label special needs does not mean that they are different from anybody else. I watched an OTA come to school everyday and work with these children to help them write better and kick a ball so they could go to P.E. with us. I thought to myself what an amazing job opportunity this would be to let people know that they can do anything they set their mind to.…
Children who struggle with a physical injury or disability often find they need extra help, and pediatric physical therapist assistants (PTAs) may be the ones to provide this help. A physical therapist assistant works under the guidance of a physical therapist to help child become independent when they suffer from a disability or physical injury. The therapist doesn't take on tasks for the child, but works with the child to show him or her a way they can tackle the job on their own, so they can become more independent and do more for themselves. The therapist assistant works with the child, the supervising therapist, his or her parents and other adults in the child's life to develop an individualized treatment plan, one that meets the unique needs of the child. Often, this therapy takes place in a school setting, thus school therapists are becoming more common.…

Regardless of whether one got harmed, conceived with a handicap disorder, or an impairment happens because of maturing of the person, there is an approach to help treat numerous problems. For my observation I went to the facility Rehad4Life, it is a physical therapy building that has many areas of specialties. The atmosphere of the building was friendly and welcoming, which helped ease stress and patient anxiety. I met three different patients and bonded well with all. The first patient was a home visit, which was a new experience in itself, so I got to interact with both the patient and spouse. The second was just as friendly and welcoming he updated me on the daily news and events around the world.…
“Occupational therapy is helping assist people in regaining their daily occupations like bathing or taking care of their house so to promote health, well-being, and participation”. This broad statement describing occupational therapy (OT) was my intended response if someone had asked me what OT was, while we were on an elevator together. However, this basic statement, that was written down only a couple of weeks into the Master of OT Program, does not begin to cover the concepts, such as occupation and occupational performance, that go along with the profession of OT. The concepts of OT help in establishing a framework for students and practitioners to incorporate into their practice. Clients and their well-being are the focus of the OT profession…
It is especially beneficial to have physical therapists on site because they can provide advice from a different point of view and explain movement from a physical therapist’s standpoint. Not to mention if injury occurs the physical therapist can definitely help. The physical therapist can also help to prevent injury in the first place. One weakness of this program is the time. There are only two availble hours in the morning and two avaiable hours in the evening for the session to take place.…
