Physical Education: Improving Student Performance

Improved Essays
“Work hard in silence let success make the noise” this is a quote that perfectly sums up physical education for me. Physical education is a subject that varies topics. Whether is is basketball and ultimate frisbee or baseball and soccer. Physical Education is an important subject that does not only help improve physical appearance but it also helps develop each individual mentally. It has proven to help individuals when it comes to school work as well as to help boost their self-esteem. During this past 4 months of physical education I have improved in many areas since the beginning of the year, however, there are still some areas where improvement is still needed. Nevertheless, goals were set to further improve my performance. Hopefully, …show more content…
Throughout these four months of physical education I was able to set some goals for myself according to my performance as well as for my grades. Most of my goals are regarding the fitness test which I am looking to accomplish most of them during 2016. My first goal would be to improve on the mile run, the mile run is the most exhausting and challenging of all. Last time I was able to improve by 40 seconds stopping at nine minutes and five seconds, my goal is to be able to run the mile in less than eight minutes and forty five seconds. Another goal for myself regarding the fitness test would be to improve “sit and reach” by five centimeters, going from 43 centimeters to 48 centimeters, I am going to accomplish this by stretching more thoroughly my legs and be able to place my hand on the floor when it comes to “touching my toes”. Another goal I am setting myself would be to improve on my “curl ups” I am looking forward to improve by 6 curl ups. Therefore I would go from 49 curl ups to 55 curl ups which seems as a doable goal. I will accomplish this by placing more effort on the circuit training when it comes to sit ups and when it comes to mountain climb. My last goal will be to improve on my stamina overall. Throughout this four months I was able to gain more stamina however, I would like to gain more so I don’t get tired during the circuit training when we just reached the second lap. Overall, I have set myself 4 major goals which I am looking forward to

Have you noticed that Physical Education seems to be a narrowing field? I strongly believe that there is a reason we need to keep PE in schools and in society today. Unfortunately, I feel as though many of the educators and teachers today aren’t taking it seriously. They aren’t doing enough to help the students become physically active, instead, the teachers just sit there because it is a job to them, nothing more. If the teachers had a better personal philosophy on what they actually want to teach, then I feel like PE would be a much stronger field and everyone would want it around.…

I observed Mr. Bradbury on Wednesday, November 1, 2017. The class I observed was a team sports class and it was during 5th period which started at 12:55 and ended at 1:55.…

Fitness and Goal Setting Knowledge Fitness and goal setting have been the main topic of conversation in this class. Whether we need to work on legs or arms today, or what we are going to do in the future. I learned that it is better to do quantity over quality when it comes to fitness workouts, and that it is always important to stretch and warm up your muscles before a workout to ensure you do not strain any muscles. For goal setting, I learned that if you pick a specific goal that you wish to achieve, like say to reach +10 in the fitness flexibility test, you can keep working towards that goal step by step, or in this case number by number, to reach your goals efficiently. When reaching towards a goal, you cannot just make it in one try…

“Assessment of Physical Activity Levels of 3rd and 4th Grade Children Using Pedometers during Physical Education Class” 1. This research study was also found on the ERIC database. After reading and analyzing two studies that discussed strategies on encouraging physical activity and/or education in the schools, the importance of who is teaching the class, and then also the support the school gets for physical activity, I found this study interesting since it dealt with the actual physical education class and what the children were actually getting out of the class. A school may have physical education classes but if the students are not benefitting from the thirty to forty-five minutes spent in the class, then it does them no good. I searched…

This particular health goal was chosen for the reason that I felt my cardiovascular endurance could use improvement in comparison to my sprinting speed.
