“Looking at these papers the teacher can see the results of the pupil and with this to judge what is the extent of his/her development and where and what help is needed” (Peneva & Karapatrova, 2013, p. 221). This makes monitoring progress easy for the student, teacher and parent. Teachers want parents involved and this is a great way for physical education to keep parents informed. Parents don’t have to wonder why their child got a lower grade if they are athletic. This allows the teacher to show the parents that physical education is more than just physical performance. Students must demonstrate cognitive knowledge of why certain skills are used, demonstrate solutions to game-like situations, importance of being healthy and being active, etc. Its shows the parents their child is receiving a well-rounded physical education promoting a well-balanced student rather than a single-minded student. Performing and understanding skills go hand in hand, especially in physical education. Being an elementary school teacher makes this method even more useful for me because I can show my students how they can show knowledge in more than one-way. Rubrics and peer assessment/personal goals can be used for grades k and 1 while a portfolio can be used for grades 2-5. Each grade level would have varying amounts of paperwork but it will be useful information that is meaningful to them and the class. Parents could also understand why their child got a grade because of papers such as log sheets, rubrics and checklists created by the teacher. Everything will be laid out for the parents to look and read the work
