This is easy will be about the human development, psychology and behaviour of the life stage of toddlerhood (12-36 months). Will state the physical, cognitive and psychosocial characteristics of toddlerhood and describe the two theorists Jean Piaget and Erik Erikson that are relevant to toddlerhood life stage. As well discuss couple of health behaviours related to toddlers which are sleep and nutrition and how important they are for developing child.
Firstly, the physical characteristics of the toddlerhood lifespan is that their body rapidly grows especially their extremities, however the child’s torso grows slower. As the child grows, their muscles get stronger, limbs get longer and slender compared to the head. As muscles grow so do the

Erikson’s development theory is psychosocial and he developed the 8 stages of life theory, which with each of the stages builds on the effective resolution of the past development conflict. The stage that relates to toddler hood (one to three years) is the ‘Autonomy verses Shame and Doubt’. Caregivers and parents can make an impact on their achievement in either loss or success of self-esteem by either providing support to create a positive affect or putting them down to make a negative impact on the child. (Crisp and Taylor, 2013, p 148). According to Erikson, anatomy is the independence of the toddler which is a psychosocial task. They gradually will do simple tasks like toileting, getting dressed and taking care of themselves. By encouraging the child to make decisions and practice their skills on their own will benefit them and gain impendence and gain overall positive affect on their self-esteem when they succeed (Polan and Taylor, 2011, pp …show more content…
There are four periods of development but the first period, sensorimotor, relates to toddlerhood. This stage is birth to two years and during this time the toddler develops self-initiated activities and to increase their cognitive abilities. They begin to walk by themselves until they are able to run with no assistance (Crisp and Taylor, 2013, pp 152-153). Piaget’s cognitive development with toddlers is that the sensorimotor stage demonstrates how the toddler uses their motor abilities and senses to understand their environment. They are constantly learning and exploring. They learn that when an object is out of their sight, it still exists and that they can grab an object in a similar way as objects that they are familiar with. (Berger, 2011, pp
