In the Light Independent Reaction takes place in both light and dark, this all occurs in the chloroplasts. The formula for Light Independent Reaction is 6CO2 + ATP → Glucose + 6H2O. In lab the class performed a couple of different experiments the one that is going to be observed is the effects of carbon dioxide concentration of photosynthesis. The group’s hypothesis was that the 6% sodium carbonate would give the highest reaction because the Elodea will give off more oxygen. The reason why we picked this hypothesis is because we believed that since there was a higher concentration of carbon dioxide it would be a Light Dependent Reaction. The materials used for this experiment were water, 3% NAHCO3, 6% NAHCO3, lamp, 10 ml pipettes and pumps, Elodea, Glass “L’ shaped tubes’, heat absorber, light meter, large test tubes, test tube holder, wax pencil, and ruler. The procedure for this experiment consists of 8 steps; first, you must set up materials as instructed by the professor or teacher who is present. These materials would needed are the light source, the heat absorber (water), and then the test tubes. Secondly, You must go cut an equal length of the Elodea plant, preferably 4-6
