You have to attract paying customers, and you have to keep up with your marketing technique throughout your career. Without customers, obviously you will not make any money. Secondly, you have to have the equipment and know how to use it. Your equipment could consist of a digital camera and nothing else if you wanted; Or it could consist of lighting, props, etc. anything you want. Thirdly, you also have to edit and enhance your photos. You need to know how to use photo editing software to make your pictures ten times better. Another vitally important part of photography is choosing a subject(s).
