The Phonogene is fundamentally a computerized instrument made up of the three essential initial devices comprising in electronic music. The very first version of the phonogene was a digital, re-discerning and developed model of a tape recorder being used as a musical instrument. It is known in the universe of Electronic Music that this digital model then used tape to merge the rate and direction to develop unheard sounds. This process was incredibly mathematical yet unpredictable. Like most innovators, Schaeffer had developed an algorithm where computers would distribute noise into fragments less than one tenth of a second which would then be changed and controlled, yet would have no idea of the outcome other than guaranteed sound of sorts. Pierre named this the Chromatic Phonogène. Additionally, he went on to create a third version of this digital model. He named this the Sliding Phonogène. This Sliding Phonogene made a nonstop tone by changing the tape speed by means of a control pole and nearly 10 years after a more complex model was designed, the universal phonogene, could separate playback speed and pitch through a turning drum, fitted with numerous read heads that could check the tape even whilst immobile, and then still making a further improvements. Having sufficiently developed models, Schaeffer then used his instrument to create his first composition called Etude Aux Chemins De
