The poem illustrates how the end of the Revolutionary war was successful and George Washington given recognition in this poem in the beginning of the poem “LO! Freedom comes” (Wheatley line 1). Phillis wrote this poem only in the way she was told to view the world; the environment where she grew up and was exposed too, for most of her life. This poem states what class Phillis was exposed too. The knowledge of history learned by Phillis in that time about the beginning of American society puts her in a different class among her peer group.
