My mom hates when people don't make plans ahead of time. My sister cannot stand when people make noise while chewing. A friend of mine literally cringes when people grab food from his plate without asking . We all have pet peeves. For some, it’s loud eating or procrastinating; for others, it’s people always being late. Whatever it is, the peeves drives us nuts. We all have pet peeves. What is my pet peeve? Easy. Mine are cigarettes. It has been proven that cigarettes are harmful to just about every organ in the body. It has also been proven that second hand smoking can be just as detrimental as smoking a cigarette. Even with all of these cold hard facts, people will and continue smoking. I don't understand why a person would damage their body by smoking and I don't think I will every understand. This doesn't just bug me because they are harming themselves but they …show more content…
All of these chemicals are going into the mouth, down the throat, inside the lungs, and ultimately into the heart. There are three chemicals inside a cigarette that are even more dangerous than the rest. One of them is nicotine. Nicotine is the substance that gets the user addicted. Nicotine is the reason why many smokers who wish to quit smoking simply cannot because their body has become so dependent on the nicotine. Mark Twain once said, “To cease smoking is the easiest thing I ever did. I ought to know because I've done it a thousand times.” Another dangerous chemical is tar. The tar inside the lungs creates lung cancer and narrows the airways inside the lungs. Another chemical that most people are not aware of is carbon monoxide. This is the same chemical that comes out of the exhaust pipe behind cars. Once carbon monoxide is inside the body, it deprives the body of oxygen and makes the blood sticky.
