Topic: Americans & Their Right to Free Healthcare
Audience: The audience of my speech would be Americans who currently live in the United States.
General Purpose: To persuade.
Specific Purpose: To persuade the audience that Americans should have the right to free healthcare.
Thesis; Even though free healthcare may be a proponent of socialism, no American citizen should go without healthcare.
I. Introduction
A. Attention Getter: According to healthcare.procon.org 47.9 million people in the United States did not have health insurance in 2012 according to the US Census Bureau. This is 15.4 percent of the US population left to fend for themselves if faced with a healthcare crisis.

II. Even though free healthcare may be a proponent of socialism, no American citizen should go without healthcare.
A. The founding documents of the United States declare there is a right to healthcare.
1. The Declaration of Independence states “unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”
a) This insulates that healthcare is required in preserving life and the pursuit of happiness.
b) If healthcare is therefore a right, the government is required to grant access of healthcare to the people.
2. In addition, the US constitution states in its preamble, “ promote the general welfare” of the people.
a) To promote general welfare, healthcare must be a function of the government.
b) Journalist Arthur Salim argues “the government’s charge to promote the general welfare, coupled with every person’s right simply to live, more than implies a right to health care – it demands a right to health
