Controversy over Mud Pits
Introduction
I. Attention Getter: How many of you know what a mud pit is?
II. Central Idea: There is a lot of controversy over the effectiveness of mud pits. A big problem is the negative effect they have on wildlife and the environment around it. As a solution to this problem, a proposition I have come up with is to replace all these pits with metal containers called frac tanks.
III. Reason to Listen: This may impact you or somebody you know.
IV. Establish Credibility: I’ve been around these pits on nearly every location I’ve been on and they all get pretty nasty and sometimes overflow.
V. Preview Main Ideas: First, I will …show more content…
Sub – Point: According to (stateimpact.npr.org) Texas does little to regulate the pits. For most reserve pits, Texas does not require permits or inspection. They can be left unlined. Texas rules do state that the pits shouldn’t pollute surface or groundwater.
Transition: Now that I have addressed the problem and cause of the problem with reserve pits, let’s take a look in to some ways the problem can potentially be fixed.
III. Main Point: Using a mud pit is the oldest way of disposing of drilling fluid. With new equipment and rising concern, the alternative I would see to be the solution to all problems is to use completely enclosed frac tanks.
a. Sub – Point: According to (http://www.ogj.com) A closed loop system is defined simply as a mechanical and chemical system which will allow an operator to drill a well without using a reserve pit.
b. Sub – Point: Each frac tank is completely enclosed with a couple hatches on top so you can check your fluid levels. On the front of the tanks is a manifold where you can tie as many as you want together depending on how much fluid you will be using. When you are done with the fluid in a tank, there is a valve and fitting for a vacuum truck to tie into and take the fluid to be disposed of …show more content…
Summary: I’ve told you about the problem with mud pits, what creates these problems, and how I feel the problem could be resolved.
II. Reemphasis: My solution is a closed loop fluid system which involves enclosed frac tanks instead of mud pits.
III. Closure: I hope my problem/solution scenario has helped yall fully understand the impact on mud pits and a way to fix this ongoing problem.
