Speech On Racism

Statement of intent: I am going to argue that racism is an ongoing cycle that is preventing us from progressing and developing our world.

Everyday we look around us at the many faces, yet all we see is multiple races. No matter if you are tall short or thin, you are judged on the pigment of your skin. We have become a nation built upon discrimination, where we are all victims to our own species. Our very own spirits and souls have been manipulated into believing that all of mankind is made equal, when the reality of our world says otherwise, that only green currency is the superior equalizer. Racism. One of our world’s primary issues. Why? Let me tell you. Since the initial creation of mankind, segregation due to race has become a prominent aspect of our world. Not only has it created a world of instability, which is essentially

In the words of Denis Leary, “racism isn’t born, folks, it’s taught. I have a two year old son, you know what he hates? Naps. End of list.” Therefore if people must learn to hate, and if they have the ability to hate then they must also be able to learn how to love. If we stand up and take action right now, we will be able to overcome the wrath of racism. But tell me, how can we expect to achieve this with the current systems we have in place? It is blatantly clear that they don’t work! We still live in a world where racism is present, correct? I pose that we embed a new racial awareness component into the primary school, intermediate and college level curriculums. This component would aim to expose students to various cultural practices and racial beliefs and values, which would ultimately allow them to become a young adult who is able to construct their own list of morals that can change at their own will. I wonder when we will ever see the damage that we have placed upon our society and our world? And when we do, will we still be able to overcome racism? Or will it have exceeded our power

Fatal Invention, by Dorothy Roberts (2011) was an extremely powerful reading. It opened my eyes tremendously to racism, both from the past and the present. I knew racism was something people faced each and every day, but I don’t think I ever registered that it happened or happens to this degree. The term “race” has been applied to discriminate against different groups of individuals. Robert’s talks about the history of race and how it has come to be today.…

Our society is like a statue, they both need the proper structure needed in order to keep it steady, but when one piece does not fit, then they will both topple down. Although statues may not relate to the problem, racism can relate to the one piece that does not fit, and this problem is explained in the articles " Black Men In Public Spaces", by Brent Staples, and " Is Everyone A Little Bit Racist" , by Nicolas Kristof. These articles dive into the topic of how racism affects everyday lives and how detrimental it is to the society and the people within. Also, it shows the unfortunate story of a victim of racism. Unless changes are made, racism will rule supreme in communities and there will be nothing for people to stop it.…

Thought there are problems with racism until today, racism is a belief of superiority of a race. It is extremely difficult to change a belief of a person by mandating legislations. The focus of socioeconomic diversity, however is easier to assist and create a course of action. By creating legislation that provides socioeconomic diversity will provide people a fuller understanding of one another. Also by elevating barriers that restrict socioeconomic growth, the nation as a hole will become prosperous due to the increase of competition.…

Racism typically emerges from generalizations people make about a race or cultural group. It is naive to think that if we ignore racism, it will disappear. It is even more naive to believe that racial minorities do not face huge disparities in wealth, power, and justice. Religion has not done enough to overcome racial divide. Why, as Reverend Martin King Jr. once said, is 11 a.m. on Sunday mornings still the most segregated hour in this nation?…

Imagine a monotonous world, where people possessed the same tone and features as others around them. Now imagine this monotonous world became a place of existence through colonization, and abrogated practices of uniformity to an idea of supremacy. Because every person’s physical makeup would then be the equivalent of the other, this hypothetical place could possibly eliminate discriminatory acts against individuals, and groups based on race, or skin color. Unfortunately, we do not live in this world. Instead we live in a world where society separates, group, and ostracize us based on our differences.…

For my midterm speech, I plan to argue my stance on racism, more specifically how I believe some of the black culture may unintentionally perpetuate racial inequality. The solution I will propose to this solution is not making the assumption that all blacks want to be associated with these racial stereotypes. I also want to propose the idea that blacks are guilty for these social norms, as are other races. This solution will hopefully lead towards acceptance on all sides of the racial spectrum. I am very interested in this topic because I believe it is one of the biggest issues we face in our society today and is addressed through many different sources.…

Racism has turned our society into one full of hate and discrimination based of skin color and cultural beliefs. Unfortunately, discrimination has done more than just separate individuals socially it has also divided them into high and low economic classes. We have created a society in which people who are born into lower classes are unable to climb the social ladder and reach an elite economic status. Our society has made it almost impossible for those who are not in power to ever reach such a position. We have created a society in which those who are suffering will continue to suffer and be looked at as a having no value or ability to contribute to the success of the economy and structure of society.…

Throughout history there have been numerous acts of racism including slavery, segregation, the Nazi regime, Martin Luther King’s assignation and more. The leaders of these operations had similar values and characteristics. One of the most prominent features of each of these individuals was the colour of their skin. For as long as most people can remember white civilians held a higher status than those of different cultural backgrounds. People of colour were continuously mistreated and were illustrated as savage or uncivilized.…

The arise of racial discrimination since the 1800’s has been a prominent and serious subject in societies throughout the world causing public unrest and violence. There have been marches, protests, charity events, gatherings, and many more attempts to try and abolish racism, but racism is not an obstacle that can just be completed with and forgotten. This is a huge task in the eyes of most people, but there is 7.2 billion people in the world (U.S. News). If everyone joined together and took small steps, racism could come to an end. To do this people are going to have to work together, and show each other that they are all equal in their own unique way. People will have to step across the awkward boundaries that have been created by the stereotypes of the world and reach out to each other to become friends with one another, and show them that it is okay to be different and that it is okay to be friends with someone who is different. There is so many ways that people can do this, in every place.…

In the Ted Talk “Phil Hansen: Embrace the Shake,” he discusses how he had to let go of his imperfection, the shake. While Phil was attending art school he developed a slight tremble in his hand that prevented him from drawing a straight line. Initially he viewed this as life-altering, how could be an artist if he could not draw a simple straight line. His shake essentially made him different than many artists that came before him. He thought by being different it meant he would not be able to achieve his dream of being a great artist.…
