Why Do We Sleep? According to scientists sleep is something that our body needs to stay alive. When you wake up with a good amount of sleep you are supposed to feel more energetic. We feel more alert, more energetic, happier, and better able to function following a good night of sleep (Source 1). Teenagers should have a range of 8-10 hours of sleep each night, while adults need less, and elementary school age children need more. Humans spend nearly a third of their lives asleep. Going without sleep will literally make you psychotic and, eventually, kill you. It's clear that shut-eye is crucial to the body's ability to function (Source 3).
