Personal Narrative: My Way To The Kitchen

Superior Essays
The morning sun hits my face and I open my eyes with excitement and fear. Today is the day; there is no going back now. I get out of the bed and stretch. I decided first things first; I need a shower to get me going. I grab my clothes that I picked out to cook in and wander into the bathroom. Once the water is to the perfect temperature I jump in and proceed to mentally prepare myself for the chaos that is going to ensue today. After a final rinse I jump back out and get dressed for the day.

I make my way to the kitchen and begin to gather all of the mixing bowls and utensils that will be needed for the preparation of the meal. My counter needs to be bigger for the job that is about to take place. I grab each recipe I need and place it with

“350 like you told me to.”

She goes to the oven and then looks back at me with the meanest look on her face.

“It is set for 450! Can’t you do anything right!”

“I’m sorry.” I say “My hand must have slipped when I was setting it due to having butter on it.”

“I knew I never should have agreed to letting you host Thanksgiving this year. Look at this mess. Dinner is ruined thanks to you.”

I run outside with tears streaming down my face. I will never be good enough for her I think. It doesn’t matter what I do or how well I do it she still looks down on me like the black sheep of the family.

I am now pacing the yard, to scared to go back in to endure any more ridicule from her. It is supposed to be a day of thanks, of family, of appreciating who is in your life and what you have and instead I am made to feel like an ant.

My brother comes outside to check on me.

“Hey, are you ok?”

“No, no I am not. I ruined our Thanksgiving!”

“No you didn’t, there are plenty of side dishes to eat, everything will be ok.”

“It will not, I have to find a way to fix this or she will never let me do anything like this

I watch to see any kind of reaction from her during the process. When she thinks I am not looking she takes a piece and eats it. I look on hopeful.

Her eyes light up and she looks over to me.

“I am sorry, this is amazing.”

Then something I never thought I would see, she starts to cry.

“I am so sorry I was hard and demeaning to you, I just expect so much more from my only girl but you did it. You managed to save Thanksgiving. I will do my best to never doubt you again.”

“I just want your support Mom, You are my hero. I wanted to be just like you growing up, but after trying for so many years I gave up and did what I wanted. Please stop crying. Let’s make a vow to always try to encourage each other in the future.”

“That sounds like a much better plan than what we have been doing, I love you my daughter and you made a wonderful meal. Now come give me a hug and then we will call the rest in for dinner.”

I move over and embrace my Mother in the first hug I have gotten from her in years. Who knew burning a turkey could help resolve a deep rooted issue with

Chapter 6 Chapter 6 reveals a good deal of detail and nuance about Miles, Janine, Tick and David, while continuing to weave the intricate tapestry that is Empire Falls. Tick hates her step 0father to be and refuses to dine with him. She comes to the Grill on Thursday nights when her mother is busy at the Silver Fox's fitness club. Tick would much prefer to live with her father, viewing her mother's relationship with the Fox as rather vacuous. “So he can talk after all.” (page 120) is what the nurse said the moment Dally and I came in, after having Johnny slightly opening his eyes and faintly saying, “Hey guys.” I was so happy to see that despite Johnny’s body dying and falling apart, his soul was complete and full of the Johnny I always knew and loved. I quietly moved to the side and whispered to the nurse, “How’s he doing?”…

It was a quiet Friday at Henry’s. There were only five customers scattered around the restaurant. There was elderly couple at one of the booths quietly eating their food, two younger men at the bar chatting about their plans for the night; and one man sitting near the window and reading the local tabloids. Both George and Lennie were, in the back of the restaurant, working. George was cleaning dishes, while Lennie was trying his best to mop.…

Thanksgiving Extra-Credit Assignment My family has never been big on the holidays- I almost always spend them at a friend’s home. This year, I went to my friend Alex’s home for Thanksgiving alongside my friend Jay. Alex and Jay are frankly some of the greatest friends I can ask for, and going in to thank them I knew they would take it light-heartedly and make a joke out of it. Before we sat down for dinner, the three of us were sitting in her living room ranting and cracking jokes.…

Typically you have a mother to father ratio, although that has been successfully changing and improving within society for a number of years. I grew up with the typical set, one mom and one dad. My mother is a petite woman, she stands at five foot four inches and she has the softest features. The women of my mother’s side all possess the same traits, these serenely crystal blue eyes and sun kissed blonde hair.…
