27 March 2016 Cell Phones Use Prohibited While Driving
What would modern society be without cell phones? Cell phones are a life source for many people, mainly because cell phones can do just about anything. You walk down the streets, into a restaurant, even at the theater and there it is, half of the crowd of humans on their cell phone either texting, talking or even browsing the web. It then becomes absolutely threatening when you are driving on the highway and you observe half of the people on their cell phones thinking there is nothing wrong with checking briefly the text message they just received. According to a study from (VTTI) entitled The Impact of Hand-Held and Hands-Free Cell Phone Use on Driving Performance and Safety Critical Event Risk, “the average texter takes their eyes off the road for 23 seconds to browse, dial and send a message — not to mention the time it takes to find the phone in the first place”. …show more content…
Although most believe teenagers are at the highest risk, I believe that with today’s technology, even adults are a great threat. “Teenagers are not the only ones texting and driving. A 2012 survey conducted by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that two thirds of drivers admitted to reading a text or email while driving.” (Prothero, 2013) Now the question we should ask each other, as well as ourselves, is: Should the use of cell phones while driving an automobile be prohibited?
