From day to day, this phrase is seen or heard in our lives, whether it be by a text, snapchat, or a phone call. Consequently, day to day we count the number of deaths this phrase has caused, and the countless number of families it has left in agony and mourning. The phrase, “I’m almost there” is just one of the numerous phrases that drivers use to notify their friends, family, and co-workers that they are almost to the desired location. As time continues to turn, the frequency of these tragedies continues to excel and more deaths and injuries are being counted. Texting and driving, the largest national epidemic known to the United States. In the year 2013, The Department of Transportation compiled a total of 3,154 deaths and 420,000 injuries counted due to the distraction of a cell phone. Texting and Driving is becoming a detrimental trend in the American culture because the statistics of death and injury are still being counted and increased, families are experiencing unbearable tragedies, and is putting the future of anyone involved in jeopardy. My main purpose of this paper is to educate any reader on how and why texting and driving is detrimental to our society. What this means is that, you may not hit the deer, but since you were looking at your phone you have a response time slower than if you were giving your full attention to the road. Your eyes are used as tools that tell our brain the situation and what you should do. Since you are looking at your phone and not the road, you’re required, first, to analyze the situation with your eyes until they can tell your brain what to do. In the amount of time that this takes, you may have already ended up in the ditch or smashed up against another car.
