It was just two years ago that open carry and the ability to carry on a campus became legal with the required training. If this law were to pass anyone could obtain a gun without education. The lawmakers however, state that if a person would have been denied the right to a gun with the current system, they would also not be granted the right of one if this law were to be passed. In addition, this law is expected to cost a massive “$38 million in the first two years” only saving an estimated 600,000 from no longer licensing (Mekelburg). Police and law enforcers have openly stated that they are against this law because it will make their jobs harder.
I am on the fence about this law; I believe that there should be less restrictions on guns throughout the United States, however, this takes that to a whole different level. I believe that there needs to be some training before taking a gun into the world. I can see this law being helpful in some areas and detrimental in others. This law will put guns into the wrong hands that don’t know how and when to use a weapon properly. They state that they will keep guns out of denied hands, however, there are no licenses that prove they are not allowed to carry a weapon.
