When your child becomes a terror and you have no way to control them, should you consider spanking them? You have tried everything from timeouts to taking the things they enjoy away and nothing is working. Can spanking a child have lasting effects on a child well into adulthood? Is a spanking a form of child abuse, some believe it is.
The reason for spanking a child is to correct a specific behavior. After spanking a child do you think the same behavior will be problematic in the future? In my opinion yes, the behavior will be a problem in the future. Why? All spanking a child does is stop the behavior immediately and there is no long-term affect. Yes, the spanking probably hurt depending on the age and size of the child, but for how long did it hurt for? At some point depending on the activity desired by the child he/she may conclude that a little bit of pain is worth it. Well if a spanking ever turns into a fight between parent and child I think there is no question whether there are long term effects or not and the relationship could be damaged forever.
