Open immigration should be allowed to continue in the United States without being condemned or restricted. Ever since September 11 happened, some Americans have been under the impression that all immigrants are dangerous. They do not want any immigrants in the U.S. and feel that they should be deported. These Americans who feel this way use excuses such as, immigrants take away our jobs and our health care. These excuses show what little knowledge Americans have about immigrants. They are not taking anything away. They actually have a positive effect on the U.S. economy, create diversity and culture, and become successful people. Not everything bad that happens is due to immigrants yet people always seem to point a finger in their direction

to live the American dream. They want to work and be successful so they can have things that they have always dreamed of, but could not have because of the situations in their home countries. In their countries there could be war going on and they want to get their family to safety so they come to America as quick as they can. Some immigrants take any job they can find because they might not have the skills needed for other job, but others want to be the best they can be since they have the opportunity. They create their own business which also creates jobs for American workers, they bring their entrepreneurial ideas, and they develop the very technologies and companies that we use today such as, google, ebay, yahoo,etc. According the the Census Bureau, “immigrants represent 33 percent of engineers, 27 percent of mathematicians, statisticians, and computer scientist, and 24 percent of physical scientists”. “One-quarter of the U.S. - based Nobel laureates of the last 50 years were foreign born and highly educated immigrants account for about one-third of U.S. innovation”(Giovanni Peri). These educated immigrants are a huge asset to the economy. These immigrant have become successful because they got the opportunity. What if they did not? What if they never got the opportunity to put their dreams in action? What if they just stayed in their countries while their knowledge and skill go to waste? All these questions can make someone think about things they have never thought about before. How many of you go to a school or a hospital and see people who take care of you like a teacher or a doctor and they are foreign? It makes you think about if they got deported, who would teach you or make you healthy.
