There are those that say the government does not help with healthcare, when in fact the government pours billions of our tax dollars into the healthcare program. Healthcare is expensive to begin with, and many low-income families are without health insurance. Medicaid was created to assist families in need of health insurance. Government assists families of low-income by providing a free service of healthcare. Medicaid is one program that the government funds for the financially disadvantaged families. Families of low-income have to qualify for the services that Medicaid provides. Medicaid allows short term and long term care for patients. “The states and federal government spent over $400 billion on Medicaid in 2010” (Frank). Citizens want to complain that the government spends too much money on Medicaid, but the program allows people to receive medical help when needed. The TANF program has allowed families to receive income to help support their everyday life styles. Also the government has been able to set aside billions of dollars for the SNAP program, allowing families to purchase food for their families.
