And that makes perfect sense. Why bother to go through all the work to provide for yourself when being lazy is rewarded? This type of low-effort, high-reward society is one that is killing our economy and taxpayers alike. It has been 50 years since the “War on Poverty,” legislation was introduced into the US. Since then, less people are entering the workforce, but yet, the poverty rate is falling. Perhaps this is due to the social and economic round the clock nursing care that is provided for those “in need”. Now, of course, there are people out there who desperately need these forms of assistance and who are just trying to get back on their feet. If a working family begins to realize how much of their income taxes are being regurgitated into a system of free handouts, eventually they could follow suit and choose the easier path of living off the government. This will create an “if you can’t beat them, join them,” attitude, which will be contagious. If someone decides they no longer want to work hard for something that someone else doesn’t have to for, then they could give up as well. Why is it that nowadays we so deeply penalize hard work, but so freely reward laziness? If this type of laziness becomes a trend, it will be the beginning to the end of this country’s economic and social freedoms. For some, these services may seem critical to the survival of those in this nation. And although it may be hard to disagree that many people need and benefit from many forms of these handouts, we need to recognize that the current system is not working. These easily attainable commodities are just begging to be abused. Again, why would someone work for something that can be given to them for free
