The Tunguska event was the largest impact of an asteroid witnessed. The event took place in 1908 when unexpectedly an asteroid struck Podkamennaya Tunguska River in a forest in Sibria, Russia. It is documented that the asteroid was so powerful that people forty miles away from the collision were thrown to the ground. This is a prime example of the dangers of asteroids hitting earth, and how many people whether far or close could be affected by the powerful strike. This is definitely an intelligent idea. One reason being, is that many experts say there is not enough research done on asteroids. With the 100X Declaration project scientists could understand more about our galaxy, and possibly even develop ways to protect Earth from being struck by another asteroid. Asteroid Day has “(…) solid support from space agencies. NASA and everyone is on board.” Grigorij Richters told CNN. Having such a well known world wide space agencies such as NASA as a supporter is a fantastic way to let people know that the Asteroid Day organization has reliable and trust worthy information. Presently, there is so much false information on the Internet it is hard to come by information that’s been verified and approved by experts. Over 562,000 infrared measurements have been made of 24,024 different solar system objects, including 613 NEOs and 110 comets”. According to the data collected the NEOWISE has found more than triple the amount of near earth objects it found last in 2013. The more data collected, the more we release how close we cut it everyday, and how we can do nothing to stop it. (Asteroids Hitting Earth is a Serious Threat, Scientists Said). Asteroids are serious threats to all beings on Earth. We will never be fully protected from what lurks outside our horizon. As of the typing of this essay, there are no big threats of asteroids hitting Earth anytime soon (Imam and Asteroids Hitting Earth is a Serious Threat, Scientists Said). This is good news all around for everyone. Knowing we are in no immediate danger is something that will put almost everyone’s mind to ease. Although there is still more than a million asteroids that have the potential to hit Earth at any given moment (Imam, Asteroids Hitting Earth is a Serious Threat, Scientists Said, and

Fifty-six hours into NASA’s third attempt to land on the moon, Houston radioed the spacecraft with a seemingly-innocent request. Following NASA’s instructions, the astronauts turned on the hydrogen and oxygen stirring fans in order to obtain more accurate readings. Two minutes later, an oxygen tank exploded. Electrical power and the altimeter readings began to fluctuate wildly. Communications were briefly lost.…

While reading the book I am a spectator most of the time and imagine everything taking place in a movie, but sometimes I am a background character. This would be equal to a Stan Lee cameo in a Marvel movie. For example, when the main character Gwen is choosing if she will be an Atlantean cadet or a civilian, I would be next in line and picking as she walks off. Giving advice to Gwen would be a hard thing to do because she already lives her life thinking that if something doesn’t go her way, she can always do something to change it. No matter how unusual or impossible the circumstances are she will always have hope to finish what she started.…

The idea of space exploration is a trending topic with those who have a fascination with the “Final Frontier” (otherwise known as space). Some people believe that humanity should invest into programs that benefit the idea and efforts of space exploration to make it a reality. They believe that humanity's expansion into space would benefit mankind with all the knowledge and possible materials we would gain from its expansion ; they believe it’s well worth the investment and would return profit back. However, there are others who believe that space is a threat to humanity and the sheer fact that we have many unanswered questions about space can, and will, harm us.…

With the emergence of a new space race in recent years, the topic of space exploration has come under fierce scrutiny. Combustible claims are being thrown into the forges of debate from both the opposing side and those that fervently follow the exploits of the various space agencies. While both sides of this debate have various logical points, they both tend to follow the same well-traveled track. The opposing side of this argument tends to charge forth asking, why should we spend money on such an expensive endeavor when we have problems to solve right here on earth? Whereas the side in defiant favor of space exploration routinely counters with an argument that space exploration is an undertaking of rich discovery that benefits all of humanity in the long-run.…

From the expected fields of astronomy and physics to more unexpected fields like geology and psychology, space exploration has provided uncountable volumes of information to dissect and discuss for many different areas of study. And, like with technological advances, these gains in knowledge have direct roots in specific programs of space exploration. For instance, new information on black holes and solar system formation has been directly accumulated from the Hubble Space Telescope, a tool that “…could reveal stars, planets, nebulae, and galaxies in all their fully-detailed glory” (Moskowitz). Or for an example far closer to home, the Voyager probes to the outer solar system discovered volcanoes on Io, the moon of the Jupiter, and 10 new moons around Uranus (Moskowitz). From this, it can be concluded that the funding of space exploration is a clear driver of scientific…

Most naysayers of manned space travel focus heavily on the danger to the astronauts and the massive amount of resources that are supposebly wasted in space. Some argue against government funded space programs while others argue against space travel in general, but all say they have good reason. Space travel is expensive, many people say that we could use this money to fix many of the world 's problems such as hunger and poverty. This is a very good rebuttal to space exploration as the problems with poverty are very important. Yet the amount of money that could potentially be made with space technology such as asteroid mining would help these problems far more than just redirecting current funds out of space.…

“My greatest unhappiness with most popular presentations of science concerns their failure to separate fascinating claims form the methods that scientists use to establish the facts of nature” (McQuade 402). Fact or fiction, scientists are often quick to announce “fascinating claims” or observations rather than do the work necessary to make them useful. As scientifically opinionated as could be, Stephen Jay Gould’s Sex, Drugs, Disasters, and the Extinction of Dinosaurs mentioned three common theories about the extinction of dinosaurs accurately, defined his way of determining if a theory is useful, and gave his own scholarly, scientific opinion about each theory. His input informs an oblivious reader into the logic of said theories and provides…
