"Sounds good my man, seeya soon,ill tw" these were the last words of Alexander Heit before he crashed and died. He was texting his friend and driving at the same time. Cellphone usage while driving, a problem that many ignore or don't think about too much was, the leading cause for the death of Alexander Heit and many more. Using a cellphone while driving is dangerous and should be against the law. Using a cellphone while driving is one of the most dangerous things you can do while driving. This is a statement that many claim and many studies have been done to prove this statement. In fact, a 1997 study in Toronto, came to the conclusion that drivers talking on the phone were about four times more likely to be involved in a car accident than those who weren't. Basically, this study is saying that talking on the phone increases your chances of being in a car accident because you're either being distracted or there's just one arm that's controlling the …show more content…
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, one of the main contributing factors for car accidents is driver inattention. One of those main distraction, is cellphones. Drivers are inattentive because they're texting, talking on the phone,etc. For instance, Jonathan Adkins, spokesman for the Governors Highway Safety Association says, "We know it's distracting, we know it increases the likelihood of a crash." Cellphone usage increases the chance for accidents because people are distracted. Using a cellphone while driving should be against the law because they are a major factor in car accidents. It's not just texting or talking on the phone. It's the whole using a cellphone while driving that should be banned. For example, a driver may be on their phone and not focused on the road ,that they may not notice a pedestrian. This is not a possibility. It has happened and will continue on if not
