Personal Values: Transcendence, Justice And Humanity

Improved Essays
The Personal Values Survey indicated that my top three values are Transcendence, Justice and Humanity.

I value transcendence, because my spirituality is what inspires me, comforts me, and provides me a support system throughout my life. The Bible tells me in John 14:8 that “If God is all you have, you have all you need”. My faith is what gives me my drive to succeed and become the best person I can be.

Principle: I have a purpose for my life.

Jeremiah 29:11 tells me “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. It has been my faith that has brought me through the worst times in my life, and gives me hope for the future.

Knowing the difference between right or wrong and choosing to do the right thing, treating everyone fairly, giving everyone a chance, being a loyal and dedicated worker, friend, mom and wife are all apart of my character, it’s who I am.

I value humanity, because of my strong religious beliefs. Relationships with others are important for our own growth, whether it’s professionally, personally or spiritually.

Principle: Because of my trusting, soft hearted and caring nature, it is important for me to develop a better awareness of other’s people's motives.

It has been my experience that not everyone values the same things that I do. My value of justice, doesn’t necessarily make a popular person. I’m often left out of things because, I am more inclined to go against the grain and do the right then than stay with the crowd knowingly doing something wrong. Because of my softhearted and trusting nature, I’m often taken advantage of. Because of this, after graduating high school my parents were afraid to let me go off to my college of choice, so I had to attend a small local community college for my first two years of college. Because of my strong religious convictions, my need for fairness or justice and my love of humanity, I may experience many setbacks along the way before accomplishing my goal. However failure only means that

Immanuel Kant believes that the moral worth of your action is determined entirely by whether or not you were motivated by duty. Whereas John Mill believed that the moral worth of your actions is determined by the amount of happiness it produces - and for the greatest number of people. So, if it is your duty to an attempt at something and you failed, your actions are still orally good; the consequences of that attempt are morally irrelevant. I have always know what I should do but now I can look back and label my choices and understand why I made the decisions I did. My statement is this I subscribe the rule of Hard Universalism, the theory of psychological egoism and because we are always selfish I believe utilitarianism represents the base desires of personhood. Everyone believes their desire is for the greater good and the right choice because they are selfish, these theories go hand in hand and dictate many of the actions of people in this world as well as the cravings we strive to rise above.…
