The stressful experience that I have decided to reflect on is one that took place last year during my job as a hostess at a well-known restaurant at the Waterfront. Being a hostess entails taking charge of the seating plan, allocating tables to different waiters, taking reservations and being the middleman between the managers and the waiters . The first negative outcome of stress is that of physical strain, this can take the form of headaches, sore bodies, low immune systems and increase in injuries (Bolger et al, 1989). While cognitive psychosomatic symptoms of stress could include intellectual slowness, confusion and negative attitude towards your job, life and family as well as difficulty with sleeping and forgetfulness (Bolger et al, 1989). Negative emotional outcomes of stress include irritability, apathy, frustration, anxiety and a sense of helplessness (Motowidlo, Packard & Manning, 1986). In my case my stress lead to physical strain from standing in heels for up to 12 hours straight as well emotional dissonance from dealing with a horrible manager.
