When Tupac Shakur discussed the concept of a rose growing from the concrete, he forgot to mention the process of growth. While many prove to be tireless in their own pursuit of greatness, we would be remiss to not mention our “gardeners” whose efforts refined and strengthened our roots. Often, we rightfully accredit our parents for their role in guiding our promise. However, other powerful figures like teachers, coaches, and peers have just as impactful a role as a parent. Socialization outside of the home is essential for our human growth as it combines other types of perspectives that enable us to further understand and evaluate our values in the world. During my time at Temple University, I have been able to maintain honors in both Psychology and Philosophy majors, while simultaneously earning a certificate in Theatre and Community Engagement. Using my well-rounded knowledge and critical thinking skills, including varying accounts of human experience, I hope to be a theater educator after receiving my degree. My academic focuses in psychology and philosophy allow me to have a deeper insight into human thoughts and actions, while theater and community engagement provides a creative outlet to implement this knowledge.
