Personal Statement Of Purpose: Course Analysis

Improved Essays
My interests have always centred on the health, well-being and function of the human body, particularly human development. Over time this interest has evolved into an ambition, to pursue a career that allows me to be part of this journey.
I feel that being on the science foundation course will give me the scope to learn and continually develop the relevant skills through experience. I am an advocate of the holistic approach; something I feel is pertinent to being a midwife which I would later like to go into.
In my spare time I enjoy to read factual books and to further and better my knowledge and understanding of all aspects of pregnancy. I know that once I get accepted on to this course I will do extremely good and enjoy the chance to

The purpose of this essay is to reflect on and discuss midwifery continuity of care and my personal experience of participating in the Continuity of Care Experience. This essay will evaluate benefits and challenges of continuity of care and I will provide details of my personal experience. I will relate this to professional codes and standards for midwifery care in Australia and reflect on what I have learned that I will take with me into my future practice as a midwife working within a continuity of care model. Midwifery continuity of care is encompassed in the framework of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Board’s National competency standards for the midwife (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA), 2006). Personal Statement Almost everyone had a rod in hand as they walked through the main street headed for the pier or docks to try and reel in a tasty morsel for dinner. In my small fishing village surrounded by serene mountains and lush waters, I grew up distant from many of life’s amenities and creature comforts. Surrounded by family and relatives, I lived in a capsule of love. Little did I know that in several years, I would be on a plane bound for the United States, uncertain about my future but resolve in my dreams.…

I’ve always loved the sound of rain. Its soft patter against my window releases me from the stresses of college applications, if only for a moment. Then, as quickly as it came, the rain stops its descent upon my window and retreats; growing up in Central Florida, I have been well accustomed to erratic weather patterns such as the rain coming and going in a moment’s notice. Florida’s weather has taught me a valuable lesson over the years: life can be as unpredictable as the weather.…

My Personal Goal Statement Every day I wake up, I ask myself how I can make a difference. This question has helped shape my personal values and principles and directed my path into the nursing field. Growing up in West Africa and witnessing firsthand the sufferings and impoverishment of the people around me, I developed a sense of compassion and willingness to make a difference and help alleviate their sufferings and put a smile on their faces. Healthcare delivery and poverty are two major underlying factors in the challenges faced in Africa, thus, when I got an opportunity to come into the United States, it was my golden ticket to finally give back to the community and make a difference. This led me into the nursing field; I started out as a Certified Nurse Assistant.…

Going into this course I was thinking: “Okay, Lisa, I have had a lot of experiences. What more can I possibly learn? I highly doubt that I will come away from this class learning something new.” But sure enough, I was wrong and you were right. True and significant life is found in Jesus Christ and because of my firm conviction of this it has been my primary objective to point people to Jesus. Being persuaded that Christ wants Christians and especially those who take leadership roles to minister to the needs of others, I have ordered my life to conform to that conviction. Ultimately, Jesus desires that each Christian serves him by serving others; this is accomplished in a variety of ways – feeding those who are hungry, teaching everyone the life saving Gospel, and by leading in a way that reflects the glory of Christ. It has been my immense pleasure to have had the opportunity to preach God’s Word to thousands of people over the past fifteen years. It is my sincere passion to see people embrace Christ Jesus as their Lord and savior and to be transformed by the renewing of their minds through the Word of God.…

Global health and social medicine have been a lifelong passion of mine. I believe that quality healthcare access for all is a basic human right and is key towards a happy and fulfilling life. As an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley, my experiences working as a caseworker in drop-in clinics for the low-income community allowed me to see that the best way to address complexities such as homelessness is to be creative, dynamic and attentive. My time spent in Kenya working with Voluntary Testing Centers and a Non-Profit Organisation rehabilitating street children, affirmed my belief of the necessity for quality healthcare access to all, especially for the communities that are the most vulnerable.…

In dance, you learn quickly that without pure dedication and drive you will never be successful. While talent can come naturally, skill and technique only come with hard work. I spent countless hours in dance studios growing up, working tirelessly to hone these skills and perfect technique. A lifetime of dance taught me what it means to have discipline and dedication to a craft, values which I have also seen reflected in my clinical experiences. Medicine is a practice which calls for just as much discipline, dedication, and drive.…
