Personal Nursing Philosophy
Coming from a nursing based family, I grew up surrounded by a lot of medical terminologies and supplies. My parents did not let me pursue a career in nursing. Instead, they guided me to economics. Before nursing school, nursing to me was all about the technical part, learning how to operate the medical equipment as well as giving medications. That is what I have seen my parents do in their clinical setting for most of the time while I was growing up. Regardless of the patient acuity, compassion and patient excellence are the definitive.
I strongly believe that each patient and family member is different, but that should not affect the care given. Each one of them needs to be treated regardless of their gender, religion, age, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or the choices they made in life. As a nurse, I should treat everyone in a non-judgmental way and offer all the support needed to do no harm. I am there for my patients as their voice, whether if they are able to speak or not.
My philosophy of nursing is that as a nurse, I will meet new clients every day, clients who are strangers and who are there to receive care and who become the most important persons of the day, who trust me to be there for better or worse, who have their lives in my own hands. I will need to provide the best standard of care, making that the first priority, while respecting their dignity. I will recognize that each patient needs to be treated with the same professionalism and respect. As a nurse, I teach clients about their conditions and help them make informed decisions for their best of care, advocate for the them and be honest with
