Studying Bachelor of Nutrition Science at St Mary’s University was an excellent opportunity to obtain complex and specialised knowledge of human nutrition, focusing on the scientific evidence for the relationships between nutrition, health and disease. The course provided strong foundations of biochemistry and clinical nutrition, which are subjects of my particular interest. Completion the clinical nutrition module with an outstanding overall mark, 84%, strengthened my wish to further develop my knowledge in this area, and to apply my theoretical background in practice. It is a modification of a standard diet and depending on a patient’s health status it is modified for nutrients, texture, and food allergies and intolerances. Knowledge of the specifications for therapeutic diets, such as type and quantities of foods that are suitable for a patient, is essential when assisting patients with meal selection. I fully understand basic concepts and purposes of using the CBORD system within the NSW hospitals, and I am willing to undertake any available training in order to become proficient in operating such a system.
The CBORD windows system provides an excellent opportunity to implement the Nutrition Care Policy (2011), within the NSW hospitals, which focuses on the effective management of patients’ nutritional requirements during hospital admission. Delivering high-standard nutrition care for patients is essential in order to enhance their ability to recover, decrease lengths of stay in the hospital, and to prevent malnutrition and its possible health implications.
The CBORD Food Services software includes a meal ordering system which allows personal meal planning and ensures that each patient receives an appropriate meal, accordingly to their requirements, food preferences and appetite. Utilising the CBORD system aims to control portion sizes of meals, minimise food substitution, to reduce food waste and to improve communication between health
