My Philosophy As A Learner-Centered Ideology Of Education

Personal Philosophy As a teacher, I am responsible for the education and well-being of my students. It is of upmost importance to me that my students are supported and cared for throughout the school day, year, and their educational journey. I believe that it is my goal and role as an educator to ignite that spark of interest in learning within my students and keep that spark lit as we learn and grow together. As William Butler Yates once said, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire”. This quote exemplifies a Social Reconstructionist and a Learner-Centered ideology of education. It is the job of the teacher to tend to and provide the adequate environment and stimulation for that fire to flicker strong and grow in the present and future years to come. I agree with the Learner-Centered philosophy for this reason. Also, students with the help of their teachers should be able to actualize oneself and use their experiences to shape their education. This leads into a Social Reconstructionist viewpoint where students should be able to bring in their past and present experiences to their schooling to help them make the world a better place someday. I hope to create students with strong initiative and problem-solving skills to help them make a difference in the world. I think it is also imperative to remember that these children will grow into adults one day and there are certain skills and procedures that will be beneficial for them to understand to function in society as efficient adults. This comes from the Social Efficiency standpoint where students are expected to have a certain skill set that will benefit their clients, or future employers. I would hate to send my students into the real world without the necessary skills to function as a working adult that is productive to
