END-OF-TERM EVALUATION ESSAY Over this summer I was in the position of accounting intern for the City of Dearborn Recreation Department. I was thankful for this position, being a statistics major, at the start for getting such a position and that has not changed as I near the end of this summer co-op. In this position I worked for the recreation accountant, assisting in all of her duties. While there was a lot of different work that needed to be done, there were some major activities that needed to be done; this included compiling and analyzing the monthly, quarterly, and annual reports; another important part of the job was to ensure we had all the proper documents, a trail of sources for auditing purposes; lastly, most of the miscellaneous work fell under researching and analyzing the various accounts and funds to ensure transactions were recorded properly and that budgets were met. Every division within the recreation department has revenues and expenditures with budgets on each. As the accounting intern I assisted in, and eventually ran, operations for the recreation account. The crucial role of the account in this position is to ensure all data for all these divisions is first correct and second within their allocated budgets. Every month end, the account compiles the revenues and expenditures into a report that applies to each division so they can review see their status as well. Without the account, there would be lack of documentation for the audit trail, lesser internal controls, an absence of accuracy assurance, an absence of records of accounts, and deficiency of funds for each division where they are
