Personal Statement: A Career In Facilitating Learning

“The highest levels of performance come to people who are centered, intuitive, creative and reflective- people who see a problem as an opportunity.”- Deepak Chopra When I first saw this quote, I was not entirely sure what it truly meant. This was until I started my adventure in the graduate world at Adams State. I was never truly confident enough in my abilities to pursue a master in Curriculum and Instruction. Until one day, I decided that to prove to myself that I can do it, and to find the resources to become a more knowledgeable teacher, I should just jump in with both feet. Throughout the courses required in the Curriculum and Instruction program, I have changed who I was as a teacher. So how exactly has the program influenced my development as a reflective decision-maker who demonstrates leadership, show that I am a competent professional, and facilitates learning for all students? Facilitating Learning for All Students Throughout the program, I have completed several courses that have really aided in my development of being a better teacher. One of the most important ways that this course has changed my thinking about teaching for all students is in the way I plan my instruction. I no longer plan from beginning to end, instead, I plan for the end in mind. I have found this method of planning to work especially well with my students when it came to preparing them for our schools A-Net testing. I can get an idea of what standards are going to be assessed and I can plan for instruction to meet the end goal. In teaching this way, I can hit all student levels and make sure that all students have the best possible opportunities to learn at their own
