• Communication is key (yes, this is the second time this is listed, can’t stress it enough).
• Maintain your physical fitness, I understand we have many distractions with work, family and school, but physical fitness is a cornerstone of Soldiering.
• Continuously strive to improve your education, be it military and or civilian.
• Be open to constructive criticism, it’s an integral part of self-development.
• Share your ideas, share your thoughts as I don’t have all the answers.
I want to be an enabler, I want to ensure that you complete your mission in support of the S1 without hindrance, obstructions, and as smoothly as possible. I am still learning, I have many faults, and can make much improvement in my daily life, in Soldiering, and in leadership itself, I am open to suggestions, if you feel the need to pull me aside and impart some knowledge or constructive criticism, please, respectfully and professionally do so, be it subordinate or peer.
As with everything, I need to inform you of actions and inactions that will cause friction in our professional relationship, these mostly include:
• Failure to communicate with seniors, peers, and subordinates.
• Disrespect of anyone that you come into contact with during business transactions, military interactions and professional interactions.
• Skipping the chain of command without due extenuating circumstances.
• Not owning up to mistakes or failures.
• Inability to ask for help on issues, questions or anything that may be in doubt.
• Lack of initiative, there is something that always needs doing.
• Exclusivity, we are an eclectic and diverse group, comradery and inclusiveness is a must to achieve success.
