On 11/10/17 I met Mr. Hamlin at the ARM physical therapy to remove the surgical dressing as directed by Dr. Clarkson. Mr. Hamlin was alert and oriented. He was cooperative and willing to provide his medical history.

MEDICAL FACTORS

Mr. Hamlin reports that while at work he was using a press to change a bearing when the bearing slipped hitting his left middle finger. He was sent to the emergency room. Later when the finger was not functioning he was sent to Dr. Clarkson. He was told he had a full thickness tear of the third flexor digitorn profundus tendon. Dr. Clarkson recommended a tendon rod placement. Surgery was done on 11/7/17.

Image Analysis of a Thumb On Tuesday, February 23, 2016, I performed a finger routine exam on the right thumb with indirect supervision with Vinton technologist Maria Davis. This was performed at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton, Iowa. I used Phillips equipment in CR form. The patient (67 years old) came in with right thumb pain saying she got it caught in something that Sunday. The order said she was having distal interphalangeal joint pain, and I confirmed with her that area was the most painful.…

Outcome measures provide a way to evaluate the success of physical therapy treatments, providing a way for comparing outcomes related to different intervention approaches. The use of standardized tests and measures early in an episode of care establishes the baseline status of the patient/client, providing a way to measure the change in the patient's abilities. Each outcome measure is created to look at a different population or injury classification. Two outcome measures that can be used in the lower limb amputee population are the Patient Specific Functional Scale and the Rivermead Mobility Index. When comparing outcome measure one should look at the validity, reliability and responsiveness of the outcome measure they are choosing.…

I was 38 years old when I was suddenly struck with the realization that my status as a stay-at-home mom had transformed. Each day my two children were becoming more independent in their flights from the “nest” as they boarded the bus and headed off to intermediate school. I was astonished to realize the extent to which my children’s needs had changed on the home front. On the other hand, the family pets appeared to be very adept at taking advantage of this new opportunity to have me at their beck and call for the day. I recognized my need to help others so I responded to a help wanted ad for a physical therapy aide which turned out to be the first leg of my journey into the world of health care and a rewarding career of helping others.…

Everything I am and have accomplished so far in my life can, at least in part, be credited to my parents. My mother, a professor of chemical engineering, and my father, a healthcare automation and systems integration engineer for a major healthcare provider, are my biggest role models and who I try to emulate in both my work and academics. They instilled in me the hard-working and determined attitude that enabled me to be successful in my studies, as well as the compassion, leadership qualities and self-confidence that I try to apply to my dealing with others and in my day-to-day life. Furthermore, my love of sports and physical activity that persisted throughout childhood, adolescence, and remains with me even today can be attributed partly…
