Personal Reflective Report

Since the beginning of the Honors Program, we focused, as a class, on the many obstacles that can occur when attempting to achieve our educational and career goals. Among the many course materials that we read took a look at was the excerpt from Ethics for Professionals in a Multicultural World by David E. Cooper. Within the reading I observed that there are many more aspects involved with each particular profession that exists. These aspects include esoteric knowledge of the profession, the social values served by the profession, and a moral commitment to serve the professional ethical code as well as gaining and withholding the trust of their clients, also known as a fiduciary relationship. Although there are many aspects of each profession that are to be met, each person can bring their own strengths, which they can build upon, and weaknesses, which they can work on in order to achieve both their educational and career goals. When I began examining my own personality, financial, and ethical strengths and challenges, I began to notice some in each category that I did not focus on beforehand. I first began by analyzing the many general strengths that I have that could be considered positive elements in a health profession. The strengths that I came up with included things such as how hard I work to do well at the tasks that I am performing, how I am willing to act as a professional within the required setting, and my passion for helping others who are in need. However, when I started to look beneath the surface and began considering many other strengths that specifically could be applied to health professions. Because I am working towards becoming a doctor, I realize that I cannot be squeamish at the sight of blood and organs in the body. I have never been a person that been bothered by anything that was considered grotesque.
