On February 24, 2018 my senior seminar class performed multiple tasks in the form of groups. My group contained five women including myself, Selena, Lauren, Ariele and Taylor. Typically I prefer individual work because often group assigned randomly and you are never aware of what types of class mates you will have to work with (control freak, slacker, talker, quite one, etc.). We were given three tasks to achieve. The first task was to create rules for the group. During this task each individual supplied ideas and everyone contributed the same amount to effort. As a group we were able to create five rule ( no one is allowed to speak over one another, we are to respect each other’s space, we will engage in mindfulness, we …show more content…
The second task was to create a scenario that related to social work. My group decided to act out a scenario centered on a family that is having difficultly dealing with dynamic between their adopted daughter and biological daughter. Again every group member was able to develop character roles easily. Power is “the ability to control and access resources to get something done” (David Haiman, Popular Educator). It can also be described as the “possession of resources that enables an individual to do something independently or to exercise influence and control over others “(social work dictionary, 2003, 5th edition). Where does power come from? It comes from birth, personality, physical abilities, education, income etc. During task one the type of power that is being demonstrated was expert power. Expert power is having knowledge, information, or proficiency valued by others. Each member has experienced working in groups and we were all aware of what works and what does not work. We were also competent in adapting quickly to the tasks, actively listening to each other, select a group leader, and find suitable space. Referent/ personality power can be described as power or charisma, based on how well someone is liked. Each group member had their own distinctive personality that was expressed through task number two. Task two was each group had to create a scenario and perform it in front of the class. Also during task three, each group had to create a rap and it had to relate to social justice. The rap also had to be performed in front of the class/ Dr. Hill. Some of the personality traits include playful, calm, friendly, creative, scholarly, confident, witty, and energetic .Reward power is based on ones ability to give rewards for certain actions/behavior
