Administrative Reprimand

1. In accordance with Army Regulation 600-37, I respectfully request consideration be given to my statement below and that the Administrative Reprimand be filed at the local level and not in my Official Military Personnel File.

2. On 20 February 2016, at or around 2300 I drove to downtown Savannah, GA and walked to a bar. My initial plan was to call a taxi, or a friend when I left. I consumed several mixed drinks containing liquor. The bar closed around 0230, at which point I left and called 3 of my soldiers to check on them. One of my soldiers was not responding and I decided to drive to his barracks to physically check on him. This is where my plan failed. I arrived at his barracks room around 0430, at which point he answered his door and explained that he had misplaced his phone. After acknowledging that he was safe I left to make my way home. At the time, I felt as if I had good intentions in checking on my soldier, however it was clearly impaired judgement. Looking back at the situation I shouldn’t have drove downtown in the first place. I could’ve mitigated the situation by calling someone to pick me up, and also to check on the soldier without me physically going there in my impaired state. I understand the magnitude of this offense and it is completely in violation of our Army standards, and even more so unbecoming of a Noncommissioned Officer.

4. Since the incident I have been counseled for my actions. I have been flagged for suspension of favorable action. I have also enrolled into the Army Substance Abuse Program for further education to not only rehabilitate myself, but give me the knowledge to become an advocate for this issue and the opportunity to train my soldiers in prevention of future incidents. I attended the Brigade remedial drivers training course, and retrained through the Accident Avoidance Course. I have also volunteered for the Courtesy Patrol rehabilitative
