Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to express my personal philosophy of nursing. To do this I will address some of the key concepts of my theory, including the four metaparadigms of nursing. Also, I will relate my philosophy to an existing nursing philosophy. By the conclusion of this paper, the reader will understand my personal philosophy of nursing.
Personal Philosophy of Nursing
A nurse’s philosophy involves contemplations of that person’s beliefs, principles, and values within themselves and their practice. The journey to discovering my own personal philosophy began with the answering of questions, such as: “what does nursing mean to me, “and “what guides me in my practice.”

Key Concepts of my Nursing Philosophy
Concepts are the building blocks on theory, abstract ideas or mental images of phenomena. They are the words that bring forth mental pictures of the properties and meanings of objects, events or things. In the nursing profession, you must have an overwhelming amount of compassion and caring for your patients and their families. You must remember that you are not only caring for the patient’s physical health, but also their emotional well-being. This belief system lines up with Jean Watson’s Human Caring Theory. Watson believes the practice of caring is central to nursing; it is the unifying focus for practice. The major conceptual elements of the theory are carative factors, transpersonal caring relationship, and caring moment/caring occasion. (Blais, 2016 p. 109) Blais (2016)
