It was a snowy Thursday evening and fat flakes fells from the sky as we drove down the road. My mom and I were heading to the barn I took horseback lessons at, Hunter’s Creek. My mom played uplifting music from The Message to pass the time. Soon the barn approached and the car crunched up the gravel drive. The fields were empty of horses and there were two cars parked near the barn. I stepped out of my mom’s silver truck and told her goodbye. Marching up to the looming barn, I snapped on my turquoise helmet and twisted open the door. Laura, a lady who takes lessons with me, was already there tacking her grey horse, Walker. “Hi Rayne! How is school going?” She greeted. “Hello, and good! How are you doing?” I responded. “I’m doing good,” she hummed. …show more content…
I nodded and headed over to fetch the chestnut mare. After I saddled her up, we started the lesson. After we finished warming up, we began going over poles. So far it was going well, we were just trotting over striped poles on the ground. Now we had to go over a little jump. I’d done these jumps many times before, so this would be no problem. Stormy and I headed toward the jump. What happened next was a flash of confusion. Feather overhead, an alarmed whinny, and me hitting the ground. I immediately jumped up and patted dirt off my pants, shouting, “I’m okay!” I didn’t want to be hurt, that would make me appear weak and add to my embarrassment. In truth my kneecaps ached, but it wasn’t too bad. Meanwhile, Stormy was cantering loose around the ring. She came to a halt at the gate and looked over to the stalls, wanting to go home. “Are you done?” Carol huffed while walking over to her. She grabbed the reins and walked the startled horse towards the mounting block. “That was quite the spill!” Laura commented, “I’m glad you’re okay.” I could feel heat rushing to my face, but I let out a laugh so it wouldn’t become more

The horse pulled back his suede lips, exposing teeth and pale gums, stretched his jaw open, and placed his upper teeth on the top of the fence post. After being at school for seven hours, I put on my boots and headed to the ski lift as I looked at the snow glow in the cold February sun. As I waited in the line, John was grabbing ice balls the size of my hand, while attempting to throw them at my back. As Jack left his station, the smell of weed stenched across the entire ski area. Not even caring about looking at my lift ticket,I easily got on the lift. I tried to pick up a snow ball as the lift came up and pushed me on its cold, rusty seats.…

Leon yawned as he finally left the stables, knowing his horse was in capable hands. He had always tried to look after his steeds himself, following his father's teachings that they should try and look after themselves as much as possible rather than relying on others to do their work for them. But this time, he knew it was better for the animal if he just let the stable hands do their job. He was utterly exhausted, the quest having been a long and tiring one. He had been gone for Camelot for nearly a week, and he wasn't sure if he had slept at all in that time.…

The sound of metal clicking into place and the black straps of the harness tightening around me immediately makes my stomach tighten with anxiety. I frantically look over my shoulder to see my uncle and Heather, holding video cameras and smiling wide with anticipation. He says something I don’t quite catch through the sound of heavy rain; people chattering amongst each other; and, of course, my own nervous thoughts. I can't help but focus on how the equipment digs into me and how sweaty my hands feel in the too big adult-sized gloves I could likely fit my head into. “You ready?”…

The person before me had already jumped off and sailed down the metal cable to the other side while I waited to be properly hooked up.
