Personal Narrative-Winter, Summer, Spring, And Fall Of Oklahoma

Improved Essays
It’s my first day as an intern at the news, and my excitement is killing me. The successful weather forecaster, Henry Smith, gets his predictions from the seasons themselves. The seasons will discuss who will get to reign Oklahoma for the day. The unruly seasons are known to behave for the most part in the other states, but Oklahoma is one of the areas where their territories overlap.

Today, Henry is standing in the middle of the news station. He is surrounded by shiny equipment and metal desks. Winter, Summer, Spring, and Fall are gathered close. Although Spring is notorious for his tornadoes, all of them, including Henry, have stormy expressions. I carry Henry's coffee across the expanse of hardwood floor and finally get within earshot of the conversation. It's my first time witnessing the

"Why don't you do it Fall?"

Henry shoots a look at me that says I'm not making the endless situation any better.

Fall shifts and scratches the back of his neck. "I don't control the temperature. I just... um... kill plants. I let winter and spring and sometimes summer decide on everything else."

I stare at him, regretting my question.

Henry finally decides to take control again. “Spring, I just want you to promise to wait until tomorrow to start storming."

"I can't agree to anything."

Henry's face is turning red.

Summer rolls her eyes. "Just let me do it."

Winter’s eyes widen with fury. “He said I could do it!”

“I don't see why I'm here,” Fall says. “It’s too early to murder any plants.”

Henry makes a sound of despair and rubs his temples. “Spring, is there anything I can do to convince you?”

Winter stomps her foot. “Just let me do it. At least I'm reliable.”

Henry grimaces. “Spring…”

Winter makes a sound of disgust louder than a bullhorn.

Henry tries and fails to take a drink. He glances down and turns over his coffee which promptly shatters on the ground. “Winter! I've told you before that I cant stand when you freeze my

Right from the start, our two essays approach their own topics in their own unique ways, using their own unique terminologies, and describing their individual weather event in drastically different tones. The first essay, What They Don’t Tell You About Hurricanes, starts off by declaring the uncertainty of a hurricane. The essay elaborates on the aftermath of a previous maelstrom that maliciously tore through the coast, initiating deadly lightning fires and horrendous floods. The monotonous way one prepares for such a storm is described almost in a detached, robotic way as if the ones preparing do not want to show any emotion because they know that if they do, all that will emerge is fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of the known, and an incredible…

United Arab Emirates Finally, the story of Joplin includes numerous mentions of volunteers and donors, yet conflicted opinions on the Middle East diminished the role of the United Arab Emirates in Joplin’s recover. Several newspaper and television reports highlight the general financial support the UAE sent to the Joplin School District for the recovery, but when citizens talk about support, they rarely mention the Middle Eastern country.
