Slide 1: The first highlight of my summer was going to Isla Mujeres and Tulum in Mexico as my family and I’s yearly trip to somewhere in the world. I went with my mom Mari, my dad Humberto, my sister Anais, and I Celine. We have been to Isla Mujeres many many times before so we always try to do our same traditions that we have been doing since the beginning such as going to the Turtle Farm and getting there on golf cart and then buying rotisserie chicken and beans, soup, and spaghetti in bags and eating it on the beach. Another tradition that we did was go to my parents church that they got married in to see how much it has changed. A Lot of the time we went to the beach and either brought our own food or bought some from the restaurants along…

Two thousand five hundred eighty-seven. I could take an eight-hour flight or a casual thirty-seven-hour drive, but no matter what, I am still two thousand five hundred eighty-seven miles away from my home in New Haven, Connecticut. Being a college freshman, trying to juggle class, homework, projects, studying, sleeping, eating, and athletics; finding the travel time to go home is an almost impossible task. Add in the cost of the $600 flights round trip and there is no chance a student can go visit home when they feel a little homesick. I on the other hand had never even fathomed being homesick from the frozen tundra I called home.…

A few years ago, my wife Diane and I packed our lives into six suitcases, Diane tucked our beloved Chihuahua, Carmine, under her arm and we set off to build a new life in a small coastal village on Ecuador's northern coast, a country we had never visited. To say we had a fair amount of fear and anxiety would be putting it lightly. As we were riding from Quito's airport high in the Andes mountains to our destination on Ecuador's northern coast about eight hours away, all the familiar fears we'd had before we left the States once again bubbled to the surface. Will my fixed income really be enough to live a comfortable lifestyle?…

I am able to understand most Spanish when spoken to mostly because I was raised in a Spanish speaking household. By the time the trip begins I would have attended all the Spanish classes necessary to go on a trip to Spain where only Spanish is spoken the entirety of the trip . My second year of Spanish will be done by the end of this school year and I will have just finished my third year when this trip begins. Reading Spanish comes relatively easy, the reason being it comes back to me as soon as it's needed. Writing Spanish will come easy as I know most grammar and basic words already and will learn the rest before the trip, Currently I am able to have a casual conversation with someone in Spanish.…
