I woke up at eight o’clock in the morning like any other day. I got out of the bed and pulled open the curtains to see what a beautiful day it was outside. The sky was crystal blue; the sun was shining, with a slight breeze. I could not have asked for a more perfect day. I went to the kitchen poured a glass of orange juice; and made some bacon, eggs, and toast for breakfast. Before sitting at the table to eat, I opened the window to feel the cool early morning breeze. While sitting at the table to enjoy the view and eat breakfast I pondered on what adventure I could get myself into on such beautiful day.

I was terrified at the images I was seeing: black smoke and dust everywhere, and what seemed like thousands of people running franticly. I begin to pray, thanking the Lord that I was in no immediate danger, asking Him to keep those who were in the chaos safe and to be with the families who had lost loved ones. I remember my thoughts were all over the place: wondering if the world was coming to an end, how this could have happened here in the United States, and why anyone would want to cause so much death and pain. Then I thought about those who had died and their families, those who were in the building that had not been found, what the first responders were seeing and what they were feeling. I thought about their selfless act of going into the buildings to help complete strangers without knowing what dangers may lay ahead.
“Why now,” I asked. I was twenty-one years old, pregnant with my first child. I placed both hands on my stomach, looked down and told my son I wanted him to stay where he was, and I promised him I would keep him safe no matter what happened. Glued to the TV, crying and wishing there were something I could do to help, but with an influx of emotions, I became very overwhelmed.
