Personal Narrative: What I Learned In My Class

Decent Essays
Heather,
Thanks for support and reassurance on the aspect of what pattern I choose to organize my paper. I am one to always second guess my decisions, so thanks. I think if there are to many “patter of organization” being use it pulls from the “heart” of what is being written. I think I did this a lot in the past before this class because I just didn’t have really any idea of how to format or organize my thoughts to go on paper. This class was awesome for me, I have learned so much. My favorite thing I learned and actually helped me in other aspects in my life besides my own schooling was the library tour. This resource has been one I have introduced to my kids through homeschooling, they were very excited as well to learn about all the resources.

There are good writers and there are good writers who work hard to become better. Mrs. Fiske, my English teacher junior and senior year of high school always told me that I was one of the best writers in my class but I could always be better. Spelling has always been one of my strong suits and I always get bothered when people can’t spell simple words. I’m pretty good at writing essays but I do not enjoy writing them at all.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

I remember when I was 5, the first time I went to a building daily for 8 hours. I sat down on the cold blue chair. In front of me was a bin of crayons, all the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple. I remember sitting in the cold room and having the freedom to draw marks on my blank sheet of paper. The dye scratching against the table, colors spreading across the canvas like the sun, rising in the early morning.…

Ever since I was a little girl I’ve been in volleyball. I’ve meet and played with many other teammates. I’ve also learned from them, even when we we’re different we would put aside our differences and bring teamwork to the table. Number one rule in being different is to never give up on yourself or change. All my life I’ve learned to interact with teammates that are very different from me.…

The moment that I discovered that science was one of my favorite things to learn about was when I was in 7th grade. The science that I learned in 7th grade was biology. Before 7th grade, I learned about other sciences such as chemistry, astronomy, physics, and geology. All those subjects didn’t grab my attention as much as biology because before I didn’t think they were interesting and I thought it hard to understand the concept of those sciences.…

When I think back on my years in middle school the difficult class was 8th grade social studies. It wasn’t difficult because I didn’t understand what we were learning, it was because of the teacher. Mr. Degroot was one of the most, if not the most, infuriating teachers I ever met. There are so many reasons why and I could go on for hours. He wasn’t even qualified to teach social studies!…

In the dusty, air conditioned, drama room behind the cafeteria, I was taught a very important lesson that took three years to learn, and the rest of my life to remember. I never realized that one sentence could be so powerful. When I first heard the famous quote, I never knew it would become apart of me. Little did I know the relevance it would have in terms of my life, in the years following. I would carry those words with me and let them guide me through my decisions up to today.…

During this past week we had a STAR activity that we had to complete as a class. We were directed out of class and given instructions on the activity. We were each given a blindfold as well as given a number. The number symbolized the number we represented and we were ordered to arrange ourselves in a line from 1 to 17 without talking or having the ability to see. Once people heard the task I could hear people starting to talk about how they were going to communicate with the rest of the class.…

The time was two p.m. when I sat down with person A to conduct the interview. He is an older man who was in excellent shape for sixty-eight-year-old man, he had weathered, sun-spotted skin, gray thin hair and appeared to be average height. Person A seemed well educated and spoke with a lot of knowledge and opinions on today 's life. I must admit that he was hard for me to understand. He wore blue jeans and a dark tee-shirt which was slightly soiled and looked as if he had already been working on his yard today.…
