Their focusing and keeping their mind blank, and they think about how they’re connecting with the sea and nothing else. I wish i would’ve known that before.
I was bored with my life. I had the same schedule every day. Go to school, come back, do homework, eat, and sleep. Then i would repeat everything the next day. I really needed something to do. I realized that I needed to join some clubs. I found out that my local church was having opening positions to teach little kids as a volunteer activity, so i decided to sign up. I usually get home from school and do my homework, watch netflix, and do chores. Now that i entered for volunteering, i thought my schedule would change, but it’s just volunteering on the weekends, so, i still have nothing to do on weekdays. I was still really bored on the weekends. I thought about something I could do, but nothing came to me. Then I remembered I used to dance when I was small. I used to love going to practice every day. I was eight at the time. I loved the fact that i had to remember steps and move at the rythm and help others, and i loved the attention.I was wondering if i still had what it takes to go back to practices and if i really wanted to deal with all the drama of competing again. I was actually thinking about joining dance classes again. I asked my parents and both of them said I could do it. I decided to go check the schedule for dance. I found out it was on Tuesday's and Friday's. I decided to at least try it out. So I did. That’s what took most of my …show more content…

I would think that I was to cool to dance and when I danced it would be really awkwardly. Also every Sunday when I was suppose to practice I didn’t want to go I just wanted to hang out with my friends. This stage of me thinking I was to cool lasted about till 7th grade. During my 8th grade year I broke out of my shell and I started enjoying it again and I know longer cared what people thought of me because this was for the kids. I’m currently still like that, and I attend my practices every Sunday with a positive attitude and a smile on my…

When volunteering at West Minnehaha it made me realize things that I didn’t pay attention to before going in. The point was to build relationships, problem solve, what to do in a conflict situation, and step outside of my comfort zone. I learned how to do every single one of those things. I realized that the kids are in need of someone who they can look up to and a dependable person who they can count on. For example, I was looking after a few kids that were doing homework and when walking around I hear a conversation of two kids.…

Looking back at the dock, the security of solid land gets smaller and smaller. I think of how my crew and I had to lug our gear- diving suits, flippers, goggles, BSD vests, regulators, bulky air tanks and all- onto the boat. I turn my eyes to the blue abyss ahead of me, but it is not the soft light blue-green that we find at the shallow end but the deeper, more somber blue that represents the enigma of the ocean and the journey that lies ahead of me. Then the boat stops moving and it's time to get ready for our first dive.…

Throughout my four years at the University of Connecticut I participated in a variety of different one-time service projects known as Community Service Days. For my first year at the university, I was a member of the Community Service Learning Community. As a participant, I was asked to complete thirty hours of community service each semester, a goal that I exceeded each time. To illustrate the types of volunteerism I participated in I have included only several of the many activities I participated in throughout my college career. Once, I volunteered to usher special needs swimmers along with their unified partners to and from the pool during a Special Olympics swim meet.…
